Earl handles some of our largest foodservice accounts. He also buys a few commodities, such as corn, radishes, and cabbage. Earl honed his sales skill working in “suds”. After serving in the Marines, he got a job as a trainee at a large South Florida beer distributor, and eventually worked his way up to General Manager. “Most of the business in that industry is done face-to-face,” he says. “I played a lot of golf in those days.”
In fact, it was a day on the golf course that eventually led Earl to J&J. While working as a broker at a produce company, he ran into a high school friend from Belle Glade, Greg Waldon, who convinced him to bring his expertise to J&J. Earl says he has seen a lot of changes in the more than 12 years that he has spent in the produce industry, but adds that being a good salesperson is still about the personal relationships. His sales secret is a simple one. “Loyalty is my secret. My customers see that. They know that if something doesn’t work, I’m going to fix it for them."
