Joe has been involved in produce ever since his first job as a stock boy at his neighborhood grocer in New York.  “A tough old Italian gentleman there named Angelo taught me everything I know about vegetables, from the quality of the product to how to treat customers,” Joe says.  “You had to be tough because nothing was palletized in those days.  Everything was delivered in 70 pound crates.”  As chaotic as the backroom may have been, the layout of the showroom was pristine.  “Everything in the store was gorgeous in those days,” he remembers.  We used to hand fold a piece of tissue paper into a diamond and place it in between each piece of stacked fruit.”

These days Joe has taken his expertise internationally as J&J’s interests have expanded to include growers outside of the United States.  Joe has been instrumental in the success of J&J’s expansion to farms in Latin America, working closely with grower partners in the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Mexico.  Everything from seed selection, packaging, infrastructure, and financing, Joe makes sure that our growers’ supply needs are met.

Joe carries on the same pride in his work today that he learned early on stacking produce. “If you don’t take pride in what you’re doing, you better hit the lottery.
