Mark has been close to the dirt ever since he ran a landscaping business during high school and college.  While it wasn’t produce, he says he learned a lot about Florida soil and plants during that time.  He has been involved in agriculture ever since.

Mark’s first job in finance was with Farm Credit, a bank that specializes in agricultural loans.  And, when J&J was looking to expand to a new facility, it was Mark who financed the deal.  “Now that I’m with J&J, I have to live with my own loan terms,” he jokes.

After achieving the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2005, Mark earned his MBA from Columbia University.  After working for an agricultural investment firm for a few years, Mark returned to Florida and joined J&J Produce in 2009.  Since then, he has been striving to find the best way to invest our resources.

Mark says he thrives on the volatility of the produce industry.  “It is non-stop action.  Imagine you’re in an industry where you’re make widgets, but you don’t know how many widgets you are going to create, and then those widgets begin to die.  That creates risk, but also opportunities.”
