J&J Produce Packing and Cooling Services

J&J has built its reputation in the industry as a premium quality “first handler” for produce sourced directly from its own farms and those of its domestic and international growers.  Through its geographically diverse packing and distribution centers, J&J acquires the freshest local products and provides a large-scale, full-service, food safe environment for the custom packing, consolidation, and mixing of produce.  J&J conducts a sophisticated combination of activities to optimally match sources of supply with the right customers.

J&J offers a variety of value-added services, such as consolidating and mixing produce, pallet breaking, custom packing, and LTL distributing.  The produce is transported from each farm to one of J&J’s facilities in large plastic bins (that contain the equivalent of 18 boxes of produce).  The produce is washed, sorted, graded, sized, and packed into appropriate packaging.  Produce may be packed directly or repacked into specialty packaging, such as RPCs (reusable plastic containers) or a different sized box (typically a smaller “split” box for foodservice).  Produce designated for retail customers may be placed in consumer packaging, such as over-wrapped trays or bags, or packed into one of the Company’s display ready cartons (DRCs).

To ensure freshness at your table, our produce is pre-cooled as quickly as possible after harvest to remove heat from the field.  Produce that emits ethylene gas is kept separate from other produce; significant attention is made to ensure long shelf-life and optimal ripeness.

J&J’s packinghouse services also ensure that all produce is kept in full compliance with all food safety regulations.  The Company maintains an extensive camera network to provide additional security.
